Olympic Gold Medal winner Amy Williams, MBE, was the guest of honour at Frome College’s GCSE Presentation Evening last month.
Amy, who won gold in the skeleton at the 2010 Winter Olympics, presented awards to the Class of 2022 students who were joined by friends and families at The Memorial Theatre
Amy congratulated them on making it through an incredibly tough two years and compared their resilience to the intense focus required by an Olympic athlete.
Cups and certificates were awarded to individual students for their outstanding achievements.
College Principal, Emma Reynolds, welcomed Frome mayor Sara Butler and deputy mayor Philip Campagna to the event, along with members of the Rotary Clubs of Frome and members of the Frome Inner Wheel.
At the end of the awards ceremony, Ms Reynolds paid tribute to her dedicated team of staff, the support from families and the wider Frome community, and the students for their hard work surpassing so many national averages.
She said: “We are incredibly proud of the achievements and progress of all our students who have shown great resilience over the last three years, facing challenges never experienced before, during a pandemic that changed the world so drastically.
“We all hold a very high opinion of this year group – they have been through a lot and deserve every success for a bright, happy future.”
At the end of the evening, Ms. Reynolds presented Amy with the College Special Award tie and a Frome College paperweight.
