RUNNERS are gearing up for next weekend’s Frome Half Marathon and with 1,000 runners already signed up to take part, the event is set to be a big success.
The Frome Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and 1k Fun Run returns for its fifth year on Sunday 16th July and is set to be bigger than ever, with 1,000 runners already registered for the three longer distances, and spaces for up to 250 little ones in the Fun Run that should be entered on the day. The Fun Run begins at 9.30am, with all other races beginning at 10am from Frome Town FC.
The race village at the football club will be open from 8am, with road closures around the town centre, Nunney and Whatley between 9.50am – 1pm as the runners pass through. Full details of the roads affected and a schedule of closing times is available at www.fromehalf marathon.co.uk.
Local residents can still get involved. Why not don a fluorescent jacket and help keep the runners safe for this fantastic day for the town?
With areas of work including runner marshalling, spectator way-finding, race village coordination, refreshment station management, ‘Team FHM’ volunteers are the key to making the visitor and runner experience truly unique.
Organisers are hopeful that the event will keep its ‘Best Little Half Marathon in the UK’ accolade, with more stories of residents out with their hosepipes and jelly babies, offering a uniquely Frome welcome to all the runners.
It’s also not too late to enter at www.fromehalfmarathon.co.uk. Individual runners are raising money for their chosen charities, while the event itself raises money for Frome Activities and Sports Trust (FAST), a new initiative that aims to provide a community resource for any activity or sports group in the town; plus other local charities. Entries for the half marathon, 10K and 5K close on 9th July and no entries will be accepted after that date, including on race day.
