The Orchardleigh Ladies’ Captain’s Day was held on Saturday 30th June under blue skies and scorching sun.
The club reports, “The theme of the day was ‘rainbow colours’, so 30 ladies in colourful dress went out in teams of three, playing a Texas Scramble using rainbow tees (red, yellow and blue). The day’s winners were presented their prizes by Lady Captain, Lorraine Collings.
“1st overall – Kate Chadwick, Dawn Russell and Lizzie Bryant; 2nd overall – Diana Bullock, Veronica Cherry and Anne Kirk; Best front nine – Sarah Hynds, Jackie Pudney and Sheila Goodbody; Best back nine – Anne Regler, Di Norris and Christine Arnold; Nearest the pin on 3rd – Anne Carpenter; Nearest the pin on 7th – Christine Arnold; Putting competition – Michele Fairweather.
“The halfway house was ‘manned’ by the Club Captain, Neil McGuinness who kindly provided a wonderful array of refreshments, together with lots of cold water and ice lollies to keep everyone hydrated. Jim Worsley, the Club Chairman set up and ran the putting competition, whilst our ladies on the welcome desk sold raffle tickets that helped raise £150 for the club charities, Dorothy House and Fair Frome. Once the golf was completed, the ladies sat down to a well earned two-course meal.
“On Thursday 5th July the Orchardleigh ladies held their Macey Cup (for the over 70s) and the Pudney Pitcher (for the under 70s). The results of the Macey were 1st – Diana Bullock 40 pts; 2nd – Di Norris 39 pts; 3rd – Pat Pitt 35 pts. The results of the Pudney were 1st – Loes de Kleuver 39 pts (ocb); 2nd – Sarah Hynds 39 pts; Lorraine Collings 38 pts. The very high scoring resulted in some handicap cuts.”
