ORCHARDLEIGH Golf Club Ladies’ section has been partaking in more of their summer competitions.
The Sally Lock Trophy is a two round stableford competition and took place on Thursday 5th August and Thursday 12th August. 19 ladies took part and at the end of the first round Carol Weightman was leading the field with 38 points followed by Anne Regler on 35 and Ann James on 34.
The second round winner was Sonia Probert with 35 points followed by Ann James with 33 and Anne Regler with 32. But Carol Weightman who brought in 31 points on the second round, added to her first round 38 points made her the clear winner with a 69 total. This was closely followed by Sonia Probert, Anne Regler and Ann James all with 67s, but Sonia came 2nd on count back.
The Val Stringer Cup was played on Thursday 26th August, a bowmaker competition played in drawn teams of three. Seven teams of ladies took part on a beautiful sunny day with the course in great condition.
The best score of the day was brought in by Loes de Kleuver, Anne Carpenter and Liz Folland with a total of 77 points. Anne Carpenter had a brilliant individual score of 40 points. The team who came second with 76 were Carol Weightman, Christina Francis and Mary Lock.
On Sunday 15th August, The Jefferies Trophy was played, which is a mixed pairs 4BBB. The winners this year were Gail and Rod Painter and the runners up were Loes de Kleuver and Mike Norris.
The Orchardleigh Ladies had rather a crushing defeat in their away match against Wedmore B in the Bristol and District Alliance league, losing 1/13.
The Orchardleigh team playing in the Somerset Interclub league did rather better in their home match against Wheathill winning 5/2 but lost their away matches to Minehead 1/6 and Tall Pines 4/3 in the last of the season’s Interclub fixtures.
