THE Frome branch of national charity Guide Dogs for the Blind is looking to recruit a new organiser.
Following the resignation of branch organiser Juliet Moore, the charity require someone to help raise awareness of the charity.
Somerset Volunteering coordinator Amanda Bealing said, “Volunteering is fun and rewarding. You know you are helping to make a real difference to the lives of people who are visually impaired and who rely on using a guide dog to maintain their independence.
“I am sure that any applicant would enjoy being part of our team in the Midsomer Norton and Frome area.
“Guide Dogs is extremely grateful to Juliet Moore, who has recently had to give up as branch organizer due to her husband’s ill health, for her hard work over many years.”
Juliet said, “We have a terrific team of people involved, including Guide Dog owners and puppy walkers, giving freely their creative skills, energy and time. There have been may laughs along the way! I have met and worked alongside volunteers I would not otherwise have known and friendships have developed. I hope that a new organizer can be found to continue the valuable work of the group.”
The role of a branch organizer involves arranging branch meetings and supporting other volunteers who undertake a variety of fundraising activities including street collections, attending local events and taking collecting boxes to businesses in the area.
The aim of a fundraising branch is to raise awareness of the charity as well as raising funds. This is a voluntary position but Guide Dogs will reimburse all out of pocket expenses.
