New projects for young people in Frome are proving a great success.
Mendip YMCA and SRYP, delivering youth work in Frome as ‘Frome Activities Project’, is completing its first 12 week programme at Welshmill and Victoria Park. Having engaged with over 100 young people during this period, to date the project is deemed a great success.
The project has been running since August. Andy Jacobs, project worker said, “It’s been a great project so far with a wide range of young people involved, I believe that this project is going to grow and grow.”
The young people were involved with circus skills and sports, smoking, drug, bullying and bereavement awareness, followed by an art and graffiti project which saw local artist Mr Vane paint a mural in Victoria Park aided by the young people.
They said, “It was so great painting with Mr Vane and we were able to take our paintings home!”
This has all been made possible with grants and sponsorship from Frome Town Council.
Andy said, “It was good to see other community members coming across to see what the young people were doing. Encouraging community members to engage with each other is something we think is important and beneficial.”
Moving forward, the project will be delivering activities at EdVenture, Park Hill Drive, Welshmill on Tuesday 3rd February 2015, 4.00-6.00pm, where they continue to engage with young people at Welshmill Park and will be planning the forthcoming Pump Jam at the Pump Track.
Frome Activities Project require young people who are either interested in riding or event organising to get involved in this process to make it happen.
At Frome College on Thursday 5th February, 3.15-5.15pm, the minibus will be parked on the Leisure Centre car park where the young people can hang out, enjoy tea, biscuits and sandwiches. Andy and fellow project worker Sarah, will continue to deliver awareness on issues the young people are facing along with an enterprise project.
Young people who regularly attend can obtain accreditation helping to improve C.V.’s along with college and university applications.
