Frome Birth Talk, a newly-formed local charity providing counselling for pregnant and postnatal women, is holding a ‘Time for You’ fundraiser on Sunday 4th February at Frome Birth Centre.
This follows the success of a similar event last year, which raised almost £1,000 and enabled the organisation to launch its counselling service.
Demand has risen steadily and the charity provided 109 counselling sessions in 2017, achieving official charity status in November.
Lucy McMahon, a trustee and co-founder of Frome Birth Talk said, “We ran a ‘Time for You’ event this time last year, when we were just starting out and it was such a lovely day. We’re really lucky to have the support of some amazing local therapists, as well as being able to tap into the talents of my multi-tasking fellow trustees!
“The day starts at 10.30am with tea and cake and a brief talk about why and what we are, then guests can choose between a yoga session or an art therapy session. A vegetarian lunch is included in the £15 ticket price, then after lunch, there are a variety of 25-minute taster therapies on offer for £5 each, including Indian head massage, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), full body massage, ‘closing the bones’ sessions and much more.
“All proceeds go directly towards counselling sessions for women in the local area who need it. Huge thanks to everyone who’s supporting the event and to the Friends of Frome Community Hospital for allowing us to use the venue.
“Having a baby can be an overwhelming and exhausting experience as well as a wonderful one, and it’s estimated that one in five women experience low mood and anxiety around this time, even with great support from family and friends. Frome Birth Talk provides a safe, judgement-free, confidential space for women to explore any difficult or upsetting feelings and helps them adjust to their new identity as mothers, with positive benefits for their other relationships and above all their relationship with their child.”
Tickets for Time for You cost £15 – please email fromebirthtalk@ gmail.com to book or see Face book.com/FromeBirthTalk.
The event takes place in the Moxon Suite at Frome Birth Centre, Enos Way, from 10.30 till 4pm on Sunday 4th February. Pre-crawling babies are welcome, but unfortunately the space isn’t suitable for mobile babies or older children.
