HUNDREDS of runners will take to the streets of Frome as the Frome Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k runs take place on Sunday 21st July.
Spectators are encouraged to come and cheer the runners as they take on the course around the town.
The events will set off from Frome Town Football Club at 10.00am. They will be started by the British Paralympic swimmer, Stephanie Millward, who will also present the prizes afterwards.
Organisers hope that they can build on the success of last year’s inaugural event, and are expecting to have around 700 runners registered.
Gill Barnes explains, “The route has changed slightly, some of the roads will have half the road open to allow traffic to move. We have marshals in all areas along the route, and an army of helpers – Rotarians, Inner Wheel members and running club members helping at the football ground.
“There will be a Race Village up at the football club for the public to visit, selling all sorts of goods. CareUK will have a stall, and they will be giving out the goodie bags to all the runners.
“We are expecting a first class event, and hopefully after expenses enough money in the pot to help two causes; starting off the legacy trust fund for athletics and sporting facilities in Frome in the future, which will mean a running track and a place where young athletes can be coached and trained in the future; as well as the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance Service.”
The four main sponsors of the event are Old Mill Financial Services, Shepton Mallet; Swagelok Fluid Systems Technology Ltd from Bristol; Rossetti House Care Home, Welshmill Lane, Frome; CareUK from Shepton Mallet.
