A group of Frome parents raised over £2,000 for charity by taking part in a ‘Brave the Shave for Maeve’ fundraiser last month.
The parents had their heads shaved to raise funds for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) and Balloons, a Devon-based children’s bereavement charity, after one of the organisers, Kerry Meech’s niece, Maeve, died suddenly in 2022.
Over 100 people gathered at the Station Approach on Saturday 15th March to support the parents, with a special appearance by the town crier, who read a special piece he wrote for the occasion.
“Under the watchful eye of hairdresser Abi, the children from my gardening club, Sprouts, took it in turns to do the deed, and they did a pretty good job,” explained Kerry.
“Owen’s Sausages and Hams made an incredible hot dog, with toppings including crispy fried vermicelli (or ‘angel hair’) and proceeds from sales of their Garibaldi cocktails were donated to our cause.
“In addition to the money raised, we’ve also donated 16 inches of my hair to The Little Princess Trust and a bucket full of Oli and Alex’s hair to Loop composters.”
The funds will be donated to the two charities which supported the family after Maeve’s death. To continue supporting the campaign visit the JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/team/teambravetheshaveformaeve
