Over 100 Chapmanslade residents and former residents filled every seat in St Philip and St James’ church for a special Songs of Praise service to celebrate the church’s 150th birthday on 1st May.
The service was led by The Right Rev Edward Condry, Bishop of Ramsbury, and Rev Pauline Reid, Priest-in-Charge of the Cley Hill Villages Benefice and Rural Dean. The hymns were chosen by representatives of village organisations.
Rev Reid said, “It was an amazing service, enjoyed by everyone, and it was so pleasing to see the church so full. The Chapmanslade community truly has been at the heart of the church for the last 150 years and we look forward to serving the community for the next 150 years.”
After the service, tea and cakes were enjoyed by everyone in the school hall, where an exhibition about the church’s history was on display.
