Frome Park Ladies continued with their good run with another win in the Wild League away at Wyrall Park, Glastonbury.
A very close game throughout finished with a very narrow victory by 1 shot 54-53 against one of their closest challengers for the top spot. With two winning rinks and the overall win gave the visitors another 10pts. The best rink was Jayne Spencer, Pam West & Sue Bird who managed to keep a close game in their favour to overcome their opponents by 19-13. This win moves Frome Park to top of the league with only one game left against City of Wells, another good result here would almost ensure they claim the title.
The men’s “B” team have gained promotion from the County League Division 2 East by winning away at Prattens with an emphatic victory of 71 shots to 46. The park men knew nothing less than a win could leapfrog them above Prattens into the final promotion spot, but this was a tough ask on an away green where the home side are hard to beat.
They not only beat their opponents, the park only dropped one point, winning on 2 rinks and a draw on the other meant they came home with 11pts and third place to ensure they move up to Division 1.
This was a great team performance with all 12 players showing real team spirit to get the result with the best rink of Roy Miller, Jim Blair, Kevin Gregory & Ian Buchan the highlight with a 33-12 win.
The “A” team will also be dropping down from Premier 2 after they lost their final game to be relegated. They had to face top of the table Portishead RBL in their final game but had no answer to their rivals and were given a hard time with the park losing on all 3 rinks by an overall score of 38-84.
This win gave Portishead the title and left the “A” team with the prospect of facing their fellow club members from the “B” team in Division 1 next season.
It has been a season of ifs and maybes for the “A” team, a couple of close games could have gone their way and the league standings could have looked so different.
This could make for an interesting time next season with both the park sides trying even harder to improve with the added confidence as a combined team they secured the runners-up spot in the MSL Division 1 South, their best finish ever so it can only make for a stronger club at Frome Park.

Frome Park Bowls Club had a very good week again with some more excellent results.
The ladies team continued their winning ways with another good win in the Wild League, this time away at Wells on Tuesday afternoon. A very close game of bowls with the Park winning overall by just 1 shot, 48-47, also winning on 2 of the 3 rinks to pick up 10pts. The best rink for Frome was Jane Spencer, Pam West and Sue Bird, who got the better of their opponents to win a very low scoring game by a useful margin of 5 shots, 17-12.
Then on Thursday the Park ladies travelled to Portishead to play their ¼ final in the Fear Plate and came home with a very impressive victory, winning overall by a margin of 15 shots, 60-47. The best winning rink of Leslie Elms, Myra Drew, Val Church and Ailsa Midwinter took total command to secure an easy 32-16 victory. A semi-final match with either Bristol or Clevedon now awaits.
The men’s teams also had good wins in the County league, the “A” team travelled away to play Yeovil “B” and put in their best performance this season to win on all 3 rinks to pick up a maximum 12pts, winning by 74 shots to 52.
The best of the winning rinks was Wayne Pitts, Keith Bird, Dave Whitehead and Nigel Hunt, who always looked to be doing the better and overcame their opponents with some good bowling to secure the win by 23-10.
The “B” team also kept up their winning ways at home against Alexandra Park Bath “B”, claiming 10 points with an overall score of 73-48. The best rink was Colin Robb, Alan Cottle, Dave Butler and Terry Drew who won by a very comfortable score of 28 shots to 10.
The only poor result came for the mixed team in the Mixed Mid-Somerset league match played at home on Friday evening, a very disappointing defeat to Isle of Wedmore, losing on all rinks by 34 shots to 60.
