Frome Football Club was filled with wagging tails and smiling faces as more than 100 dogs took part in a lively charity dog show in support of Dogs for Health.
The indoor event, organised to raise funds and awareness for the local charity, featured a wide range of classes, from ‘Prettiest Bitch’ and ‘Golden Oldie’ to many fun categories in between.
A spokesperson for the charity said, “One of the highlights of the afternoon was the Young Handler class, which showcased impressive handling skills from children working confidently with both young and older dogs. The class drew plenty of applause, celebrating not only good technique but the strong bonds between handlers and their canine companions.

“The top honour of the day, Best in Show, was awarded to Bella and her spaniel Bessie, who impressed judges and spectators alike.
“The event also celebrated a creative project involving local schools. As part of the charity’s outreach work, children were invited to design a new school dog badge. The competition was judged by the mayor, who kindly gave their time to choose a winning design.
“The winning entry was created by Erin, whose artwork will now be turned into a badge to be worn by all of the charity’s school dogs on their harnesses and volunteer bags.
“The dog show provided a relaxed and friendly afternoon for families, dog lovers and members of the community, all coming together to support the important work of Dogs for Health. Several local businesses also attended, offering their support and helping to make the day a success.”
Dogs for Health works alongside the community to help reduce social isolation and improve mental health and wellbeing and is one of the only charities in the country to offer therapy dog home visits. The charity also provides wellbeing visits to businesses across the country.
The charity is always keen to hear from potential volunteer dog handlers. Anyone with a dog that enjoys meeting people and who can spare an hour a week to visit someone in their own home is encouraged to get in touch. Full training and assessment are provided.
Looking ahead to 2026, Dogs for Health is also seeking new trustees, particularly individuals with experience in grant or bid writing. In addition, the charity is fundraising to purchase a dedicated “dog mobile” — a van converted with the welfare of the therapy dogs in mind — to allow dogs to travel to and from visits in a safer and more comfortable way, as demand for visits continues to grow.
