A petition has been launched by a Frome resident urging for a pedestrian crossing to be installed on Clink Road.
The resident, Jemma Foster, says a lack of safe crossing points on the road has resulted in frequent near misses and a ‘constant sense of unease for parents and guardians.’
She is urging other residents to sign and support the petition, which she plans to give to Somerset Council.
“Clink Road is a vital thoroughfare that not only connects two major estates but also serves as a primary route for many school children and families,” said Jemma. “Yet, the absence of a pedestrian crossing between Stirling Way and Wychelm Road poses a significant safety risk, particularly for children attending Hayesdown First School, Selwood School, Frome College, the leisure centre and rugby club, as well as those attending Frome Opportunity Nursery. This stretch of road is also frequented by numerous childminders who care for our community’s youngest members.
“The lack of a safe crossing point has resulted in frequent near misses and a constant sense of unease for parents and guardians who fear for the safety of their children each time they need to cross the road.
“By installing a pedestrian crossing, we can ensure that children, parents, and the many caregivers, who work in this area have a safer passage, boosting both community morale and safety. Moreover, such a development will connect the two estates more effectively and promote walking, which aligns with broader public health initiatives.
“We urge Somerset Council and local authorities to prioritise the safety of our children and community by approving and funding the installation of a pedestrian crossing on Clink Road. We believe this small, yet crucial infrastructure improvement can make a significant difference in ensuring safe and secure mobility for all residents.”
