Frome photographer John Beeching has published a book entitled ‘Saxonvale’.
The photobook is about the old light-industrial site near the centre of Frome which, after many years of abandonment, is finally set for redevelopment, mostly as housing.
John has been visiting the site for over 10 years and photographed the changes; fences, barriers, destruction, graffiti art, fly tipping and even big-brotheresque cameras with loudpeakers. This was not planned as a documentary photographic project, but rather a recording of aspects and details that drew his eye.
Now that Saxonvale is about to be transformed, it is timely for him to review these photos and synthesise them into a coherent body of work. His book ‘Saxonvale’ is available from the online publisher Blurb (https://www.blurb.co.uk/b/9425956-saxonvale), which has published John’s previous four photobooks including two about Frome; ‘Three Frome Artists’ and ‘Silk Mill’.
