TEN flats and a pizza restaurant could fill the space left by the Poundstretcher store in Stony Street.
If planning is successful two two-bedroom flats and eight one-bedroom flats will be built on the first, second and third floors with a family pizzeria on the ground floor. The plans also propose renovation of the facade.
Poundstretcher closed its doors just after Christmas with six people losing their jobs – the discount store had been in Frome for 21 years.
The architects, Orme Ltd, who submitted the planning application this month, said in their design and access statement, “The proposal involves significant improvement to the façade of the building as well as a major internal renovation.
“The Victorian and Edwardian parts of the building will be generally refurbished and restored with limited intervention. The 1960s building façade is of little architectural or structural merit and this is to be replaced.
“The building, formally a Poundstretcher discount store, has been in need of repair and maintenance for some time and this proposal presents an opportunity to revitalise an important building in this historic part of Frome.”
