THE aim of providing genuinely affordable homes in the town is top of the agenda at a special meeting being held next month by the Frome Area Community Land Trust.
The group has been investigating opportunities for developing affordable housing in Frome and the surrounding area and these will be discussed at a special general meeting on Thursday 1st August at Frome Town Hall from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.
Applications to Homes England and Community Led Homes for grant funding have been made and the group is fairly confident that these will be successful.
Board member and Frome town councillor Nick Dove said, “We have been in discussion with Mendip District Council about a role for FACLT in proposed new developments within the town, and in the past month, we have started actively publicising the CLT and are steadily attracting new members. We now want more local people to join and help us make affordable homes in Frome a reality.
“Becoming a member of the Community Land Trust will give you a voice and help us to keep the momentum running; it is so important that local people get involved. You can become a member by going onto our website – www.fromeareaclt.org – or you can do so at our meeting on Thursday 1st August by arriving early on the night, from 6.30pm where you will be able to complete a membership application and purchase a £1 share.
“The special general meeting is aimed at launching FACLT to the wider Frome community and explaining what a Community Land Trust is and what FACLT hopes to achieve. Examples of other successful CLTs, particularly in the south west, will be discussed, with local residents given an opportunity to find out more and to become members. The meet-ing will also give approved members an opportunity to elect a new board of directors for the coming year.
“Anyone can attend the meeting and the CLT hope that this launch will lead to positive progress in the quest for genuinely affordable homes in Frome.”
Frome Area CLT was formally set up in February this year, with a board of 10 founding directors. It was launched as a result of the work of Fair Housing for Frome, who are continuing to support and nurture it. Over the past six months, the group has established the CLT organisationally with key policies and procedures now in place.
