Frome residents are continuing to challenge local supermarkets to come up with better packaging solutions.
If you want to join the next #ReturnThePlastic event, come to the Co-op in Westway precinct with your plastic packaging (washed please) at 12 noon on Saturday 1st Sept. The group return their plastic on the first Saturday of every month. So far Sainsburys, M&S, Asda and Lidl have been targeted, but now it’s the smaller supermarkets.
Helen Kay, one of the organisers says, “There is too much packaging of single-use-plastic where it could be cardboard or biodegradable plastic-type materials. We consumers pay to get rid of it through our Council Tax and the environment is put under increasing pressure. We know these decisions are usually made by head office, but we are trying to exert pressure locally, and other groups are springing up around the country”.
The campaign is supported by individual councillors from Frome Town Council and by all five of the local Green party district and county councillors.
Start saving your plastic now and bring it on Saturday. There may be some singing at this event, so it should be fun too!
