A COLLECTION of poems written by local woman Linda Perry, who died earlier this year, will be published later this month.
A launch party for the book, ‘Marmalade Days’, will be held on Wednesday 25th September at the Rye Bakery from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. The collection of 32 poems has been collated and edited by Linda’s former tutor and local poet Rosie Jackson.
She said, “Linda was well-known in Frome, she had lived here with her family since the 80s, worked for 30 years at Frome Wholefoods in Cheap Street, worked tirelessly organising with Frome Friends of Palestine, and was an active campaigner on environmental and social justice issues. She was also a very good poet.
“Linda was one of my students in a poetry class I’ve been running for several years. She loved playing with words, trying out new forms, and had a wonderful sense of rhythm. Her poems give lasting testimony to Linda’s love of life and celebration of the natural world. They’re funny, quirky, passionate, gentle and delightful.”
All are welcome at the launch party. Entry is by donation. Linda’s friends, family and fellow writers will read some of her poems, interspersed by music from harpist Vicki Burke and fiddle player Joanna Harvey.
‘Marmalade Days’, published by Poetry Space, will be available at the launch, then at Hunting Raven Bookshop.
