Three of Frome Water Polo Club’s men’s team were selected to play for Somerset in the recent South West Region Inter County tournament held at Millfield School.

The Somerset team knew they had tough matches ahead with the teams from Devon and Gloucester including players from the top clubs in the Polo League. The first match against Devon was close with Somerset just securing victory by 9 goals to 8. Next up came Dorset, and Somerset got into their stride, winning 6-4. Finally they faced Gloucester. With fatigue setting in for all teams, it was a test of stamina to see who could find that something extra and Matt, with his swimming background and enjoying the space in the water at Millfield, came into his own and scored a hat-trick to help seal the 15-7 victory. Brad was Somerset’s second highest scorer overall with 6 goals and Fraser scored 1. Their efforts saw the trophy awarded to Somerset for the first time in many years.
