Local artist Violet Von Riot has won the people’s choice award at the 118th annual Bath Society of Artists Open Exhibition for her captivating collage of Catherine Hill.
Violet’s piece was chosen out of over 400 other artists and her collage was made up of thousands of pieces of torn up bits of old magazines. The piece was started during the 2019 pandemic as she said she missed the hustle and bustle of the town during lockdown.
“I was so excited to win the people’s choice award!” she said. “What really made me happy was that as the voting was all done in person, it meant that people took time out of their day to go and vote for me. Some visitors to the exhibition would have seen my work for the first time and picked it out of all the other wonderful works that were of exceptional quality.”
Violet says that she’s hoping to create a larger collage for all the larger towns and cities in the country.
“I’m currently working on a collage of York, with Edinburgh being the next on my list,” she explained. “I also have had some very large and very exciting commissions from some very well-known places in Frome, which you’ll see in the next few weeks.
“I’ll be taking part in the Frome open art trail; I’ll be taking over a window at Studio Art and Frame in the precinct. My latest works and original pieces will be on display, many for the first time anywhere. There will be a small, limited run of ten signed prints available in A1, the largest print size I’ve ever created, exclusive to Frome and not available anywhere else or online. Also, my latest piece, of Glastonbury festival, will be up and on show for the first time. This has been really well received online and has been my best seller to date.
“I wanted to thank everyone who came and voted after seeing the previous article in the Frome Times, I’m certain this helped no end in my win!”
