HAYESDOWN First School celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style.
Headteacher Julia Battersby reports, “We started with a red, white and blue whole school parade around the local area, waving our flags to everyone who had lined the streets to see us pass. The long line of 300 children waving flags was quite a sight to see! So many parents, grandparents and even the local nurseries came out to see us, waving and cheering – it was a very special event.
“The newly elected mayor of Frome, cllr Sara Butler, then joined us to showcase our Platinum Jubilee Tapestry panels, which the children have been busy creating over the past weeks. Each class had a decade of the Queen’s reign to represent and we had spectacular results with events such as the Queen’s Coronation, man on the moon, Live Aid, England winning the World Cup, the royal wedding and the Rubik’s cube, all celebrated in tapestry panels which will be displayed in the school hall.”
Mayor cllr Sara Butler, said, “It was a joy to see all the hard work and effort that the children had put into these wonderful tapestries – they are clearly proud of their work and also know a lot about what has happened over the past 70 years.”
The children also dressed up as queens, princesses, kings, princes and royal soldiers for the school’s special Platinum Picnic on the school field.
