LOCAL musician Carol Foster of The Meltones is organising a live music fundraiser for cancer charity We Hear You (WHY) at 23 Bath Street on Thursday 1st June. The lineup includes The Meltones, Three Corners and Bristol-based singer songwriter Jude Dylan.
Carol’s close personal friendship with WHY’s founder, Jill Miller, has inspired decades of fundraising for WHY, including last year’s launch of Carol’s album ‘Coming Home’ which raised £1,000 from CD sales and donations at the launch event.
WHY fundraising officer Helen White said, “We’re so delighted that Carol is back on the fundraising trail for WHY – this amazing lineup of bands will ensure a fantastic evening out. Thanks so much to all the performers, to the best sound engineer in the west, Will Angeloro, and to 23 Bath Street for letting us use their lovely venue. We can’t wait – see you there in June.”
Carol said, “I support WHY mainly because Jill Miller, who was a personal friend of mine founded this project over 25 years ago, at a time when nothing else similar was available, but was dearly needed in the local area. She was a close friend of mine for over 30 years. In 2004 I found myself in need of the type of support offered, personally by Jill and by WHY. Because of this support, I will always be grateful. That is why I continue to fundraise and support WHY in every way I can, and in honour of Jill. It’s been most satisfying to watch WHY develop over the years and expand its service.
“The multi-talented Three Corners have their own groovy sound defined by some striking self-penned songs and an easy performance on stage. Led by Caroline Radcliffe and Nick Waterhouse, they effortlessly strive to create an intimate atmosphere with their soulful sound. Add some superb harmonies and a brass section and you’ve got serious funk and soul coming at you. With four albums under their belts, their original songs tell stories of woe, joy, births and travels.
“The Meltones are a singer/songwriter focused trio, with three studio albums already behind them. They strive to deliver a sophisticated, acoustic, jazz/pop sound, layered with a tight rhythm section from Clive Melton and Simon Bishop and the R&B inflected female vocals of Carol Foster. Their upbeat song writing reflects their love of journeys, the road, love and other demons, although never far away is a touch of unrequited love. However, the fun element of their laid-back music and team spirit is a delight to watch on stage.
“Jude Dylan is a 19-year-old multi-instrumentalist songwriter and producer, based near Bristol. Taking inspiration from an array of artists, Jude Dylan mixes elements of modern indie rock acts. He likes to ‘challenge the rules’ with his experimental recording techniques which in turn compliment his natural musical ability. Live performances from Jude Dylan bring a wealth of enthusiasm and sincerity blended with honest humour – Jude has captivated audiences from his initial tentative steps into the open mic scene through to larger stage performances.”
Tickets for the fundraiser are available on the door at 23 Bath St on Thursday 1st June from 7.30pm, for a suggested donation of £5-10. All proceeds from the event will help WHY support children, young people and adults affected or bereaved by cancer and life-threatening conditions, through counselling, mindfulness, nature connection courses and art and drama therapy.
