Frome College marked the end of the school year with its annual Sports Awards Evening, which also included this year’s Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
The awards were held at the Merlin Theatre on Tuesday 12th July and the VIP guest of honour this year was the UK’s first professional free rider, national mountain bike rider and world record holder Chris Smith.
Chris who is a former Frome College student, brought with him one of his racing bikes which he valued at over £5,000.
He gave an inspirational speech to the crowd about following your dreams and how hard work and commitment can lead to great things in life. He followed the speech with a presentation which had the crowd gasping and gripped in their seats by a ‘white knuckle’ video taken from his crash helmet, of a very narrow and very steep downhill street race through a mountain side town in Mexico.
The college send their congratulations to all the award winners and thanks everyone involved in the celebration event.
