FROME College Radio Club will now present monthly shows on the town’s own station, Frome FM.
With support from FromeFM volunteers, students have received training on how to research, plan and edit radio shows at the after-school club.
Now, the club has been invited to host the Frome FM ‘Breakfast Show’ and the later ‘Teenage Kicks’ every four weeks.
The shows are already popular features on the station, and will test everything the students learn at the radio club.
They held their first shows on 26th November.
Principal Gavin Ball who has been a guest on the station said, “I am immensely proud of our students who make these projects happen. Giving up spare time and committing to extra curriculum activities shows great initiative, and helps to develop their leadership and life skills for the future. I look forward to listening to the shows.”
The shows will be run by radio club members Jake Eaton, Rhys Neven, William Ferguson, Alex Williams, Grace Lindley, Amy Cottrell and Steph Verwey.
The students are also producing a fortnightly pre-recorded show, which will air after Christmas, called ‘Frome College Matters’. It will enable students of all abilities to meet, work with, and get to know people within their community and allow them to have a say in services which affect them. It will feature news and interviews from both the College and the wider community.
FromeFM director Matt Sims said, “We are delighted to have Frome College students as part of our regular broadcast team. They bring a whole new aspect of Frome life to our airwaves and, from what we have heard so far, present and produce very professional and informative shows.”
