FROME has shown its real community spirit by raising a record-breaking £3,600 in donations for the Big Christmas Get-Together on Christmas Day.
Over the weekend of Frome’s Christmas Lights switch-on, volunteers for Big Christmas Get-Together and Fair Frome collected £3,626.98 to help provide a free Christmas lunch and festive celebrations to anyone who wants company on Christmas Day.
Run solely by volunteers, who work together to ensure everyone has a good day, the event includes everything from a full traditional Christmas lunch, to transport for guests, chatting at tables and washing up!
A variety of music and activities will also entertain guests through the day, finishing with a live broadcast of the Queen’s Speech and then transport home.
“Thank you to everyone who supports Fair Frome and Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together – you are making a real, positive difference to your community,” said Wendy Miller-Williams from Fair Frome, “The money raised at the Christmas lights switch on will be split between providing a free Christmas Day lunch for those who are on their own or can’t afford a Christmas meal, and also with Fair Frome who provide emergency food parcels and festive gift bags throughout December and also organise community lunches in areas across the town all year round.
“We were all absolutely speechless and very overwhelmed with the generosity of the public in Frome. We know its not an easy time for many people, but to receive so many generous donations really is very heartwarming.”
Frome Mayor, cllr Sheila Gore, who helps at the Big Christmas Get-Together said, “What a brilliant event that is! A great crowd of volunteers work together to help make a wonderful event so that no-one needs to be alone on Christmas Day.”
