THE people of Frome have helped make it a record-breaking year for the town’s Poppy Appeal with over £30,000 raised.
That total is a record for the Frome and the surrounding villages area and far surpasses last year’s effort of £22,700.
Poppy Appeal organiser Maggy Daniell said, “This centenary year has been a special one in many ways, and we are grateful that it has resulted in very generous donations to the Poppy Appeal. The amount from Frome and the surrounding villages going to help ex-service men and women will be just over £30,000. This is a record for the area and is a real credit to both the public who gave so generously and the volunteers who put in the hours for the appeal.
“As a team we would like to thank you all and to assure you it will be well spent on those who deserve our thanks, or for the families they left behind.
“For anyone who came too late to get a centenary enamel pin, a few are still available at The George Hotel, and donations for these will be included in the final figure. We would like to thank all the shops and businesses which helped with the collection and extend a special thank you to the big retail stores who were so hospitable to our volunteers.”
The Poppy Appeal is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign. Every year the nation shows its support for the Royal British Legion through the appeal. Funds help support the British Armed Forces, past and present, and their families.
