Somerset Waste Partnership plans to revamp waste and recycling services from 2020, collecting more materials in a weekly kerbside recycling service.
Rolled out in phases in 2020, residents will be able to add extra materials – including light but bulky plastic pots, tubs and trays, as well as beverage cartons (Tetra Paks), single-use coffee cups and small electrical items – to their recycling waste.
Somerset Waste Partnership announced last month that the kerbside collection contract is open to bidders.
The new contract will be based on delivery of the much anticipated “Recycle More” service, with new vehicles working from refreshed depots collecting a much wider range of recycling every week.
Because Somerset’s councils work in partnership, this is one of the largest collection contracts in the UK, so is expected to attract a lot of interest in the industry, giving Somerset Waste Partnership the opportunity to make sure local residents get the best contractor to serve their long-term needs.
