A QUEUE of over 100 people, with the first ones arriving at 5.30am, gathered outside the Cheese and Grain as tickets for the Frome Festival went on sale on Sunday 20th May.
They queued to get their hands on some of the hottest tickets available which include a tour of the Frome Tunnels. Tickets for a walk in the tunnels, which went on sale at 10.00am, sold out in just 15 minutes. Festival creative director, Martin Dimery explained, “Every year the hottest ticket is for the Frome Tunnel Walks. There’s a huge demand to see the mysterious tunnels. There is so much going on but tickets for the Idiot Bastard Band are also selling quickly and so are tickets for Reef – so make sure you pick up your tickets soon!”
This year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than ever with a wide range of concerts, comedy, and exhibitions. There is no shortage of big names with TV comedians Shappi Khorsandi, Mark Thomas, and Phil Hammond; adventurer angler Jeremy Wade from ITV’s ‘River Monsters’; poet and TV presenter Ian McMillan; country and western comedy songwriter Hank Wangford; actor Mark McGann, and World Music‘s top act: Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara or ‘Juju’. Of the biggest stars, few can compete on the world scene with Wallace and Gromit who will be appearing in a fabulous ‘Aardman at the Black Swan’ exhibition, which will incorporate children’s workshops.
The star names, however, are not always the biggest attraction. For those less inclined to exploring the dark recesses of the town, there are many other popular walks and talks taking place above ground, as well exciting workshops. The literary programme entitled Words@Frome Festival grows in popularity every year with the Short Story competition attracting entries world wide. The Writers and Publishers Day on Sunday 8th July is also a ‘hot ticket’ with many aspiring writers from far and wide, keen to take advantage of the writing surgeries with established literary agents.
