Dorothy House Hospice Care is holding a ‘Light up a Life’ Service at Wesley Chapel in Frome on Thursday 8th December.
The short service will feature Christmas carols, readings, an opportunity to remember loved ones and to light a candle in their memory.
Also performing are The Dorothy House Quartet who are singing a new piece of music called ‘Folded Wings’ recently gifted to the hospice by local composer, Tim Parker to celebrate their 40th birthday. The song’s theme is the unfaltering care given by the hospice to its patients and their families and the quartet is made up of four members of staff from Dorothy House; Yvonne Brunton, Simon Parrett, Susanna Watson and Peter Howe.
These seasonal services of remembrance are part of the annual Dorothy House ‘Light up a Life’ Appeal. Last year the appeal raised £45,000 to help the hospice provide essential palliative and end of life care, free of charge to local communities.
Dorothy House Hospice Care, fund-raiser, Yvonne Brunton, who helped organise the services said, “The Light up a Life services are a very special time for families and friends to join together and remember a loved one. Many people gain great encouragement from attending the services and view it as the start of their Christmas.”
Dorothy House Hospice Care, chief executive John Davies said, “It’s a privilege to mark 40 years of Dorothy House with these ‘Light Up A Life’ services which are also being held in other local towns. They are a great opportunity for families to remember loved ones and reflect before the busy Christmas season begins. Since 1976, the hospice has cared for 45,000 patients and their families in the local community and this has been made possible by the generosity of many supporters and volunteers who have made Dorothy House the special place it is today.”
Doors open from 5.30pm, entry is open to all and no tickets are required.
