To mark this special year of Remembrance, Frome Twinning Association invited representatives of all three of their twin towns to Frome.
The association says, “The towns have jointly celebrated Remembrance Day for the last 25 years by laying wreaths at each other’s towns. Councillors and young people from Murrhardt in Germany, Château-Gontier in France and Rabka-Zdrój in Poland travelled to Frome for the weekend and took part in the Act of Remembrance at the Memorial Theatre, laying wreaths on behalf of their towns. On the morning of the Remembrance ceremony they were welcomed by the Mayor of Frome.
“They also found time to visit local places of interest and enjoyed a pub meal with members of the Twinning Association. “
Justin Worringham, chair of Frome Twinning Association said,” We would like to thank all the hosts who provided accommodation for our visitors. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the aim of Twinning to promote peace and friendship within Europe and to remember together all those who died in war.”
Damon Hooton, vice-chair of Twinning, together with Rich Ackroyd, Mayor of Frome, will travel to Murrhardt for the German Remembrance commemoration, which takes place on November 18th.
