NEXT month Australian nun Robina Courtin, will be visiting Frome to share her unique approach to the pressing topic of how to develop compassion for ourselves and others.
In preparation for Venerable Robina’s visit organisers, The Good Heart, will be screening the award-winning documentary, Chasing Buddha, that tells a story about her life.
Director of The Good Heart, Alison Murdoch said, “[The film is about her] fascinating life and will start at 7.30pm on Monday 24th July. It tells the story of how an Australian feminist and political activist became a Tibetan Buddhist nun and went on to work with inmates on death row all over the world.”
When the film was first shown at the Sundance Film Festival, Rebecca Yeldham, said it “Inspired…an intimate portrait of an extraordinary woman.”
Ven Robina’s in-person talk will take place over three evenings at the Bennett Centre from Monday 21st to Wednesday 23rd August. Organisers said, “The topic of showing more kindness and compassion to ourselves and others feels so relevant to the difficult times we live in. Expect three evenings of straight-talking insights, humour and warm-heartedness as Venerable Robina applies the wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism to daily life in a way that is challenging, serious, funny, inspiring and, above all, practical and down to earth. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life’s problems or looking for a fresh approach to happiness, don’t miss this unique opportunity.”
Everyone is welcome, for one evening or all three. Although entry is by donation, booking is essential for all events via www.thegoodheart.uk. You can find out more about Venerable Robina at www.robinacourtin.com and follow her on Instagram, Youtube and Facebook.
