FROME’S revamped police post has proved to be such a success in its first three months that it’s going to stay open for the foreseeable future.
The office, in the Market Yard car park, is manned by a total of 17 volunteers with support from the town’s neighbourhood beat team.
In the past three months 342 people have called in at the post, 32 to report a crime. There have been 37 lost property inquiries, 43 parking issues, 12 reports of anti-social behaviour, 34 messages for police and 184 other requests about issues including directions, local facilities and crime prevention advice.
Sergeant Sarah Dinnis said, “Each visit has provided an opportunity for positive engagement with our community. The police post team are doing a great job and we have received positive feedback from local councillors, local retailers and from members of public themselves.
“We have slightly reduced the opening hours over the winter but will continue to cover any Christmas events and markets.
“We said we would review the police post at the end of three months and I am pleased to report that the project will be continuing for the foreseeable future. Please feel welcome to come and meet the Police Post team at any time!”
