Robins hit the Miners for six in pre-season opener

A perfect start to the new campaign for Frome Town as Danny Greaves’ men put six past the hosts at the Southfields Recreation Ground.

Two goals each from Brendan Holmes and Zak Drew, plus strikes from Archie Ferris and David Duru, secured the victory for the Robins.

After 71 long days without footballing action for the Robins, Greaves’ side travelled to Radstock for the first pre-season match. Two of the three new additions made up the starting 11; Josh Owers partnered with Harris Feltham in the middle of the park, as Zak Ali played as a left-sided centre-back.

The deadlock was broken on ten minutes through Holmes and soon after Ferris scrambled the ball home to make it two-nil inside 12 minutes.

Holmes got his second of the evening after debutant Owers’ cross from the left flank found the number two at the back post, who hit the ball from close range into the top right corner.

With just 30 minutes on the clock, youngster Jensen Wakefield was taken off for David Duru, and he was called into action, quickly firing home the fourth from inside the six-yard box.

Four goals in the first half ensured the victory and five substitutions were made at the interval with four trialists coming on.

Drew was one of those substitutes and got himself onto the scoresheet early in the second half before adding his second and wrapping up a convincing win with eight minutes left.
