Gracewell’s Rossetti House care home in Frome has unveiled a beautiful new dementia-friendly garden, as part of an initiative to further support residents living with memory loss.
The garden was created with the help of local landscaper James Stean, a relative of a resident at Rossetti House. The project was funded by a sponsored walk, completed by Rossetti House staff, which raised almost £500.
The garden is a tranquil space, where residents can relax and enjoy the array of specially-chosen colourful flowers, whilst overlooking a river.
The garden also features six hand-painted boards, which were created by a group of year 9 students from Frome Community College. The boards, which feature beach and garden scenes, were specially created by the students as part of their GCSE coursework.
Dementia-friendly gardens provide a safe and relaxing space for those living with memory loss and can often help trigger memories through sights, smells and sounds.
Emma Murphy, home manager at Rossetti House said, “We are delighted to open this beautiful dementia-friendly garden, and many residents have already commented how much they have enjoyed spending time there.
“The garden looks wonderful and we are so grateful to James Stean for all his hard work and to the students from Frome Community College for their wonderful artwork.”
