THE Postlebury bellringers – who operate across Marston Bigot, Nunney and Wanstrow – are on the hunt for more people to join their group.
They will be hosting a ‘tower open day’ on Saturday 16th October at St. Leonard’s Church, Marston Bigot, for anyone interested to come along and find out more.
They say, “Postlebury bellringers are currently fundraising to increase the six bells at Nunney church to eight to complete a project, initially started in 1918, to commemorate those villagers who lost their lives in World War One.
“The project was expected to be completed in the summer of 2020 but Covid intervened. After a break in ringing and fundraising of 18 months, progress is now being made again and as part of the return to normal life post Covid, with more bells to ring, we are keen to increase our membership, so the bellringers are holding an open day at St. Leonard’s Church, Marston Bigot on Saturday 16th October.
“There will be two open sessions from 11:30am – 12:30pm and from 2pm – 3pm for interested people to come and view the bellringing chamber, meet the ringers, see ringing in action and discover more about this ancient part of the English cultural soundscape.
“Anyone from the age of 10 upwards can learn to ring, and as well as providing a service to the local community, it is an opportunity to take part in a fun activity that is good for the brain, body and mind.
