FROME’S Royal British Legion have thanked the community for their generosity this year following a range of successful fundraising opportunities.
The group reports, “What a lovely year we have had after a slow start due to coming off the back of lockdown. This year we had a change of secretary and chairman and under the leadership of our chairman, Richard Aspray, we have moved smartly forward.
“We had a great summer tea party in which we raised funds and we’ve also planted a commemorative tree in Victoria Park as a part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee; it will help serve as a reminder of those who have served, ‘We will remember them’.
“We had a fantastic team of Poppy Appeal collectors headed up by Richard Fry and we again have received fantastic support from the community of Frome. This led nicely up to the RBL’s main event – the Remembrance service. With Jane Norris again taking charge this year, we had a fantastic service which was given by Colin Aylesbury, and with great diligence and support from John Price, and Barry Eggleton we had a parade and service to be proud of.
“Our breakfast club meetings started in the Market Cross Café once a month before moving to St Mary’s Church; since then, we did try encouraging members to the Masons Arms; however it’s not as yet been successful.
“What of 2023? We always look out for ex-service personnel, and volunteers to join us, and we look forward to the start of the year when we will be hosting a Burns Night on Saturday 28th January, for details of this and how to join please contact John Rawlins on 07850 608499.”
