A RUNNING group in Frome has been helping residents with their mental health, one mile at a time.
Run Talk Run Frome is part of a nationwide running group that is powered by Sport in Mind. The group aims to make movement and mental health support less intimidating and more accessible and meets weekly to run five kilometres at no set pace.
“We run a gentle five kilometres and offer a safe space to talk,” says running leader, Angie. “There is no minimum pace, we often stop and walk. We meet every Tuesday at Frome Cricket Club at 6.45pm for a 6.50pm start.”
Run Talk Run originates from London where it was set up in 2017 by the founder Jessica who was struggling with her mental health and needed an outlet. “The Frome group has been going for about eight months,” explained Angie.
“Numbers vary each week but we are growing. Recently there was 13 of us (and two dogs). Now it’s lighter in the evenings we usually always have five people and sometimes more. People are free to come along and have a chat or listen. It’s about having a safe space to be in.
“The group is also free of charge for people to attend and it always will be. All volunteer running leaders have a support network and are also DBS checked.”
