FROME residents Ryan Wheeler and Harry Glover have completed their running challenge, raising over £2,000 for Dorothy House Hospice Care.
The pair originally planned to cover the distance of 48 miles in 48 hours, running 4 miles every 4 hours.
However, as they reached the end of their challenge, they both decided to add extra miles to their challenge, instead completing the equivalent distance of two full marathons, 52.4 miles.
For the challenge, Ryan, who is well-known locally as a boxer and personal trainer, and Harry had to set an alarm every 3 hours, sometimes running through the night – two of their 4 mile runs took place at 4am, when temperatures dropped to -2 degrees outside.
The pair slept for around 5 hours in total over the entire weekend, but say that this didn’t phase them too much as they were both overwhelmed by the amount of social media support, generous donations and encouragement from locals as they ran around town.
“If I’m honest the challenge wasn’t as difficult as I anticipated,” said Ryan talking to Frome Times after the challenge. “During the challenge I hardly slept, I can only say I was fuelled by people’s encouragement and the adrenaline of the challenge.
“I spent the following day catching up on sleep But no real aches or pains. I even managed to go out for a bike ride today. The important thing is that a huge amount of money was raised for such a great charity.”
The link to their donation page is still open on their Facebook accounts if anyone would still wish to make a donation. “Every little helps,” said Ryan.
