FROME’S Father Christmas float raised a record £12,500 for local causes in December.
The float, run by the town’s Lions and Rotary clubs, toured Frome during December spreading Christmas cheer and collecting money to donate towards organisations and causes in the town.
Keith McLeod, president of the Lions Club of Frome and Gerry Atkinson, president of Frome Rotary Club said, “We would like to thank the community after the Father Christmas Float raised £12,500 to help local good causes.
“The total exceeds the previous year and represents an all-time record!
“The float is a fantastic team effort between the two clubs, and special thanks must also go to the drivers and marshals who do an excellent job in ensuring that Santa visits as many houses as possible.
“Santa is now having a well-deserved break, but will be back in December to start his visits again!
“It’s great to see the joy the float brings; parents with young babies, teenagers, and other members of the family all coming out of their houses to line the roads and wave to Santa. Many people remarked that it would not seem like Christmas had arrived until the Santa float had been round!”
