SELWOOD Academy are celebrating record breaking results, reporting that they are building on their successes last year.
As a year group there were a number of huge successes with record-breaking number of pupils achieving the expected standard across reading, writing and maths, says the school. And it comes despite national news reporting on the challenges faced in this year’s SATs papers and schools still working to fill gaps in learning following the pandemic.
Head teacher at the school, Dan Jeffries, said, “In maths a record 77% of pupils achieved the expected standard, up 14% on last year’s highest results ever and substantially above the national average.
“Writing results were exceptional and the highest in the school’s history with 84% of pupils achieving the expected standard, 12% up on last year, once again this is well above the national average.
“A whopping 90% of pupils achieved the expected standard in science, once again the highest in the school’s history and dramatically above the national average. Not only are results up in each individual subject for the number of pupils meeting the age related standard but results are also substantially up for those working at greater depth in each subject.
“A group of notable performances include Sam B, Callum J, Douglas L, Lotty M, Lucy R and Dylan T who achieved greater depth in all available areas, which is an incredible performance.
“These results are a testament to the incredible efforts of our staff and pupils, they have truly let their light shine and I couldn’t be prouder of them. We know our pupils put everything they had into these assessments and therefore deserve to be full of pride and most importantly that they absolutely did the best for them.
“These results reaffirm our reputation for exceptional academic performance. We had so many exceptional performances including pupils who moved from pre key stage to age related and those that despite extended time in hospital still achieved greater depth!
“We know that the care, support and nurture that we have given our pupils have really prepared our pupils to face this challenge.”
Reflecting on the school year, the head teacher added “These results wrap up another incredible year at the academy; from the strong Ofsted inspection a year ago, the incredible trips the children have undertaken, our sell out production of Mary Poppins at the Merlin Theatre, our block buster summer concert as well as our incredibly popular taster days which saw over 200 Year 3 pupils experience a day at Selwood.
“I am so proud of the children and the whole community and I am full of hope and excitement as I know next year will provide even more opportunities for our pupils to flourish!”
