FROME’S Person of the Year 2016 award has been won by Beaver Scout leader Ben Reynolds.
Hundreds of votes were received in the competition, which was organised by Frome Times to find the person who has made a real contribution to the community in 2016.
Ben is an active member of the community and is involved in several organisations in the town but he is best known for his contribution to the local Scouts group. He has been the 1st and 7th Beaver Scout leader for six years and gives a lot of his spare time to take the children on trips and to events.
Ben said, “I can’t believe I won Frome Person of the Year. I was very surprised to hear that I was nominated, so to win is a big shock.
“I am very grateful to the person who nominated me and of course thank you to everyone who voted for me.”
Ian Drew, editor of Frome Times, presented the winner’s shield to Ben last week. Ian said, “Congratulations to Ben on winning our Person of the Year award for 2016. Ben dedicates a lot of his time to helping young people in Frome and, clearly, local families appreciate his efforts. This award is all about recognising people who give a lot back to their community and Ben is certainly a worthy winner.
“All our nominees this year would have been deserving of the award and they can all be proud to have been involved and to be playing their parts in making Frome such a vibrant town.”
Other nominees were Pam Dixon, Tillie Mabbutt, Wendy Miller-Williams, Julie Peet, Derek Trick and Emma Warren.
