SOME of the final events of the season have been played at Orchardleigh Golf Club in the past weeks.
Sarah Doble reports, “The Jefferies Trophy, which is a mixed 4BBB, was won for a third year in succession by Steve and Anne Regler with 42 points, followed very closely by Pete Maunder and Pat Jones with 41 points and, in third place, Martin and Mel Sutherland with 38 points.
“In the ladies’ section the Sally Lock Trophy, a stableford competition played in two rounds, was won by Christine Arnold and the runner up was Christina Francis.
“The Val Stringer Cup took place in late September having been rescheduled from March due to bad weather. The bowmaker competition was played in teams of three and was won by Anne Regler, Liz Folland and Carol Marquiss scoring 78 points.
“In second place with 74 points was Pat Jones, Di Norris and Michelle Fairweather, and third with 63 points was Christina Francis, Sonia Probert and Christine Arnold.
“All the ladies’ league matches have now been completed for this year.
“Orchardleigh had an exciting end to the season in The Bristol & District Alliance league when they beat Bath’s B team by 8 points to 6. These 8 points were needed to stay in Division 4, whilst Bath B will go down to Division 5.
“Orchardleigh’s Somerset Interclub team were not so lucky with their matches and so will stay in Division 5 for another year, despite high hopes for promotion.”
