FROME Selwood Tennis Club has been crowned Somerset’s ‘Club of the Year 2016’ for its new facilities and for encouraging people to play.
The Somerset Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) committee gave the award, and the Selwood club will now go forward to the ‘Regional Club of the Year’ round.
The club was congratulated on its strong community presence, membership satisfaction, the provision of new courts and online booking and its role in encouraging local people of all ages to play.
Somerset LTA also said, “The club has demonstrated a willingness to think innovatively and progressively in order to grow and develop all aspects of the club (e.g. marketing and promotion, utilising technology, membership and coaching programme structure, engaging in LTA initiatives).”
“We are delighted and very proud to receive this award,” said club chairman, John Price. “It has been hard-earned by our committee and our member volunteers.
“I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those who give their time and efforts so freely now and in the past for the good of our club: members of the committee, trustees, league team captains and players, parents, all the volunteers helping at our club events, the many long term members who have contributed so much in the past and continue to do so, and all those who do their best for the club in too many ways to mention.
“It is also important to recognise the work put in by Chris Matthews and our hard-working coaching team.”
