SOMERSET Sight has a fantastic new up and running visually impaired archery group in Frome and wants to expand, so is looking for new members and sighted guides.
The group meets fortnightly on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30am At Lower Chatley Farm, Wolverton.
Liam Harkness, age 36 is totally blind and is half way through his six training sessions and he said, “I can’t believe how fantastic and inclusive archery is for blind and visually impaired people. There are a lot of different techniques you can learn to make your arrows more accurate, I have already hit the bull’s-eye a few times which I thought would be impossible. It’s very addictive and great fun.”
The group is open to blind and partially sighted people, along with their sighted guides. The initial course contains six sessions, which teaches the visually impaired archer the techniques they will need and the sighted guide how best to support the archer.
After completing the course, you can then enrol as a member of the Frome Archery Club.
Somerset Sight is also interested in re-starting a social group for the visually impaired in Frome. This would be a group of VI’s getting together monthly to arrange activities and outings such as: touch tours, visits to museums, sports, arranging meals out or just getting together over a cup of tea and swapping tips, advice and having a friendly chat.
