Fireworks will not be the only stars lighting up the sky on 5th November.
Broadway takes on Shakespeare at the Merlin with a screening of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, filmed during the production’s sold-out, critically lauded run at Brooklyn’s Theatre For A New Audience. The Shakespeare favourite gets a contemporary makeover from Broadway’s ‘The Lion King’ director Julie Taymor, with cinematography by Rodrigo Prieto (Argo, Frida) and music by Academy Award-winning composer Elliot Goldenthal.
Described as an immersive, inventive cinematic experience, the show boasts a stellar cast, including David Harewood as Oberon, Kathryn Hunter as the mischievous Puck, Tina Benko as Titania and Max Casella filling the role of Bottom.
Dame Helen Mirren, attending the New York premiere of the film at the DGA Theater, commented that it “gives a wide audience the great thrill of participating in what will become a legendary production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ directed by the incomparable Julie Taymor, one of the great visionaries of American theater and film. If you love imagination, fantasy, wit and beauty, with a script by William Shakespeare, this film is for you.”
