Frome resident Kit Sadgrove has started a new organisation – Wikko.com to add articles about corporate misdeeds into Wikipedia.
“One-third of news stories about corporate misdemeanours never get into Wikipedia, because no one thinks it’’ their responsibility,” said Kit. “As a result, many stories disappear from view after a few days.
“Wikipedia is the world’s fifth most visited website and is used as a reference point by law makers, NGOs and teachers, as well as the general public. But many stories about corporate crime never reach its pages.
“Articles that Wikko has recently put into the encyclopaedia include a demonstration at a London arms fair, a burger chain’s employment practices, an outsourcing company’s multi-million pound fine and an oil company’s environmental damage.
“Wikko is now seeking 36 volunteers, each of whom will be allocated 10 days a year in which they will check for news about corporate misbehaviour. The group will train volunteers in how to find news stories and how to edit Wikipedia.”
