The Seniors at Orchardleigh Golf Club held their annual presentation recently.
Seniors Captain, Mike Passingham, presented engraved whisky tumblers to all the winners of the monthly medals. In Division One (20 and under) there were five different winners: Bryan Haylett (2), Jonathon Reeve (2), Colin Cook, Ken White and Jeff Dawson. In Division Two there were seven winners: Adrian Hawes, Bill Savage, Phil Baker, Neil Clark, Chris Duffield, Peter Folland and Martin Edkins. Peter Folland is the only player on this list who also won a Monthly Medal in 2024 showing just how open the competition is.
The ‘Majors’ for Orchardleigh Seniors include The Seniors Captain Cup, won by Jonathon Reeve, while Phil Brocks took the Drums Hill Masters. Bill Blanning won the Vets Vase (70 years and over) and Gary Butler and Danny Reeves won the Pairs Better Ball Trophy.
The Knock Out Cups see games played throughout the summer. Mike Norris and Andrew Hill won the Pairs while Richard Church won the Singles, gaining The Peter Forth Shield.
The Seniors’ Championship (a scratch competition played over 36 holes) saw a new winner in Gary Auld, with a total of 160.
The Best Nett score on day one was by Alex Anderson – to win the Phil Jefferies Cup. Jim Worsley had the best nett on day 2 to gain The John Scott Trophy. Alex also won The Mike Small Cup for the best nett overall.
The Order of Merit (the best eight scores across the season played at the 19 Monday roll-ups) saw Bryan Haylett take first place with 133 points ahead of Jonathon Reeve with 125., with Simon House and Mike Norris in third and fourth. Bryan achieved a top 20 finish in 14 of his appearances, just resisting a late charge from Jonathon Reeve who had 11 top 20 finishes in just 12 appearances. The Order of Merit saw 76 Seniors attend over the season with an average attendance of 35 on each Monday morning.
Mike Passingham concluded the presentation by congratulating all the senior golfers who had experienced challenging conditions during the very dry summer and thanked the green keeping staff for presenting absolutely amazing greens during this time.
Friendly competitions for the Seniors continue at Orchardleigh every Monday morning throughout the winter starting at 9am.
