The Frome Festival Short Story Competition, now in its 13th year, welcomes a familiar face as guest judge in 2016.
Jane Judd is a London literary agent who has a long connection with the Festival, having run one-to-one advice sessions for writers in previous years and regularly reading the winning competition entries.
She was an editor with Hutchinson for 10 years before setting up her own agency in 1986 and has an eclectic list of non-fiction and fiction writers, including best-selling authors Jill Mansell and Anne O’Brien.
The competition is the brainchild of Alison Clink, but is currently administered by Brenda Bannister. It regularly attracts between four and five hundred entries from across the UK and beyond.
Writers have until 31st May to submit stories on any theme and between 1000 and 2200 words in length. First prize is £300, with £150 and £75 for second and third places, plus prizes for best local entries. Entry costs £5 per story and is either by post to Frome Library, or online via the competition website.
