The 2018 Frome Festival Short Story Competition opened on 1st January, with a first prize of £400. As previously, writers have until May 31st to submit original stories, on any theme, of between 1,000 and 2,200 words.
The guest judge this year will be Margaret Graham, a prolific, best-selling novelist, teacher and writing mentor. Margaret was also the founder of the Yeovil literary prize. Full entry details are on the competition website www.fromeshort storycompetition.co.uk and stories can be either uploaded online or posted/delivered to Frome Library.
Organisers say, “It’s always good to hear of our winners’ further successes and last year’s first placed writer, Rhiannon Lewis, has had a particularly exciting year, with a second story taking third prize in a Hammond House competition and yet another being shortlisted by Writers’ Forum magazine. Best of all, Rhiannon has launched her novel, ‘My Beautiful Imperial’, set in Chile during the country’s civil war of 1891. The book was published by Victorina Press in December and launched both in Rhiannon’s home town of Abergavenny and the Chilean Embassy in London.”
