The team behind The Frome Independent have been overwhelmed by sales of their “Somerset Sister” T-shirts, which have now generated hundreds of pounds to support vulnerable young people across the town.
The t-shirts, which are designed and produced in Frome, are being sold to raise funds for Frome Re:Fresh, a local grassroots organisation that provides sanitary products and toiletries for students who face complex circumstances that mean they are not fully supported in areas of personal hygiene and self care.
The t-shirts were released by The Frome Independent in late November 2018, with 20% of all sales going directly to Frome Re:fresh, so that they can supply hygiene products that are distributed for free to young people who need them across schools in Frome.
The t-shirts themselves proved very popular over Christmas, with a groundswell of support from local people on social media. T-shirts had sold out completely by the end of January, raising over £300 for Frome Re:Fresh.
The market team have reported that whilst most of the Somerset Sisters T-shirts were purchased by Frome residents, they have also had sales from across the country, and internationally too, including one order that came all the way from Australia. Director of The Frome Independent, Tabitha Clayson was thrilled to see how popular the t-shirts were, and how keen residents are to support such an important local cause.
She said, “Frome Re:Fresh do important work for our town, which we hope the Somerset Sisters T-shirt campaign goes some way to highlighting. We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with them into 2019 so that we can raise as much money – and awareness – as possible for the work that they do”
Responding to requests from the public, the market team have now produced more “Somerset Sisters” T-shirts, ready for The Frome Independent’s market on Sunday 7th April. Until then they will be available from POP! On Cheap Street and Sisters’ Guild on Catherine Hill.
The Frome Independent is a not for profit company based in Frome, Somerset. Their monthly market takes place on the first Sunday of the month until December from 10am – 3pm across Frome town centre. For more information, visit www.thefromeindependent.org.uk

![Town-wide programme brings month of social activities in May
A month-long programme of activities and events is set to take place across the town in May as part of an initiative encouraging residents to connect with themselves, each other and local places.
The scheme, Frome Connects, will run throughout the month and includes a mix of social activities, creative events and informal meet-ups in community spaces.
Highlights include the return of Dress Up Fridays, which began during lockdown and invites people to wear formal clothing or fancy dress and turn the town into their catwalk each Friday.
Set-piece moments include a Kate Bush-themed flashmob (Running Up That [Catherine] Hill) on 30th May, followed by a bell peal at St John’s Church where the bells will play Running Up That Hill.
There will also be a whole-town drone photo on Friday 30th May, with everyone encouraged to ‘look up’ at around 12.30pm.
